Our coaches are: Malcolm Cooper, Jim O’Brien, Jim Tang, and Josh Kramer.  Most of our coaches continue swimming both as Masters (adult swimming) and with regular ocean swims; and a few coaches register and participate in the USA-S meets.  Malcolm (sprint free, back and fly) was both High-School & NCAA Div I All-Americans (i.e.; finalists at College Div I Championships).

Check out our Summer Swimmer 2006 Letter from Coach Malcolm - and the condensed version.  This still holds true 2007!

Malcolm Cooper

Malcolm swam all four years at Harvard ('79). Malcolm has been head coach of Maui Dolphins since 2002, coaching masters and/or adults for over 20 years, and was twice selected Maui News HS Coach of the Year.

Jim Tang
Jim has been coaching our older swimmers since 2003.  He also helps coaching our masters team.
Jim O'Brien
Jim coaches our youngest swimmers.  Jim gets in the water with the newest swimmers to help them get their face wet, learn to kick and breath ... arguably the most challenging job we have.  Jim is not only a certified coach, he is also a certified lifeguard and WSI instructor who keeps all the coaches properly certified.  He also certifies many of the personnel on boats around Maui.
Josh Kramer
Josh is a new coach to our team coaching flippers.  He's been swimming with masters for years. Josh works as a naturalist in Haleakala Park working on, amongst other projects, tracking and supporting our Nene (Hawaii's state and endangered bird) poplulation.
Toni Sinnott
Toni grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  She started swimming as a teenager, but soon was helping the coaches.  She has coached Maui Masters for 10 years, and has taught kids swimming as a lifeguard in many places but most recently in Kihei and Sakamoto Pools on Maui.

First year coaches, are reminded that they have to take the test this year to renew their registration. It is available at www.usaswimming.org.  You can take the test on-line.
